SPA ladies attend leadership conference 3/11/06
Jenna Druck “Young Women’s Spirit of Leadership Conference”, March 11, 2006 -- Twenty-five young women from S.P.A. boarded a bus at 7:00 a.m. on a rainy Saturday morning to join over 500 women from around the county at the Grand Hyatt hotel. The girls attended two keynote speeches, a mentor luncheon, and two break-out workshops. The first keynote was a one-woman show using dance and music to convey the importance of emotional intelligence. The second featured WNBA legend Ruth Bolton using her life experiences to teach about overcoming adversity and persisting in achieving goals. S.P.A. students were active participants in the open sessions. Workshop topics included career exploration, conflict resolution, nutrition, communication, self-defense, time management, and leadership. When the day ended at 4:30 an exhausted but inspired group of students headed home with new ideas, new friends, and a new sense of their own power and potential.
